Like you, I’m just a dog owner that defines himself as a dog lover and I’m always looking for the best for my beloved furry friend. When my partner and I decided to move to Australia, we took with us our dog and cat. They spent a month in a quarantine station, and when we finally picked them up and took them home, our lovely beagle started developing separation anxiety.
We did a lot of research and a lot of reading about this topic and we found an article that said “Now scientists have revealed how dogs spend up to half an hour howling, barking and whining after their owner leaves them alone. And for some pets, the torment lasts for hours.” Something that sounds logical but then the next part was more shocking “nowadays dogs expend almost half of their life waiting for their owners to come back home”. As unbelievable as it sounds, it was only in that moment when I realized that my best friend in the world was feeling alone almost all day because of the lifestyle we are so used to. The most social animal on earth left alone for hours, that’s just wrong.
I decided to do some dog walking and give her what she needed: socialisation, exercise and most importantly: reduce the number of hours she was home alone. She taught me a lot of things, especially how to communicate with her and read her body language. Now what started as a hobby has become our passion and lifestyle.
